Who’s Firing - Layoffs weeks ended 7-2-10 and 7-9-10 - Page 2


Top Layoffs weeks ended 7-2 and 7-9:


Banking topped the list as Wells Fargo announced 3,800 layoffs and hundreds of branch closures. Retail was next, as Flying J announced 2,500 layoffs at it’s stores across the country.

Health care had significant layoffs, as West Penn Hospital disclosed 1,500 job cuts. Aerospace announced large job losses due to NASA program cuts, as United Space Alliance, and IAP announced large layoffs.

Government remained near the top of the list as 29 state/local governmental units and school districts announced layoffs this week affecting thousands of workers, led by the Prince George’s County Schools laying off 800 employees and San Bernadino County that announced shedding 529 employees.

Transportation rounded out the list as Arrow Air, and HAVI Logistics cut significant staff levels.

Inclusion on this listing doesn’t mean the entire industry is down, as some from the same sectors appeared on the “Who’s Hiring” article published 7/6/10.

Job seekers: You might want to look in greener pastures than these companies.
