Whos Hiring – Top Employers week of 1-4-10


Who's Hiring is a weekly survey of companies showing the highest hiring activity for the week of 1/4/10. Not only is this valuable for job seekers, but for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers, and others who are interested in companies experiencing growth. Despite the recession, these companies are all expanding.

Total Job Openings:

The business services, hospitality, retail, telecommunications, health care, defense, and banking verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ top job boards. Of course overall advertised openings were down a bit this week due to the holiday.

Business Service firms IBM, Booz Allen, Accenture, Deloitte, and SAIC continue to be in the top hiring firms. Hospitality continued strong hiring, with Pizza Hut, Cracker Barrel, and Hilton among the top hiring firms this week.

Retail hiring remains strong into January, with Blockbuster Sears and Kmart in the top 10,even after the holidays have ended. Other top retail hiring firms include Murphy USA, Food Lion, and Radio Shack. Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T, and Verizon still strong on hiring.

Health care hiring continued its strong past quarter, led by UnitedHealth, HCR Manorcare, Gentiva Health, HGI Healthcare, Amedisys Home Health, Aegis Therapies, and Quest Diagnostics among the health care top hiring companies.

Defense companies remained top hiring firms led by US Army, General Dynamics, and Raytheon making the list. Banking continued strong this week as JPMorganChase registered #8 on the hiring list, while Wells Fargo and Fifth Third were also included in the top hiring companies.

Based on surveys of US job advertisements in the top job board aggregators, the following companies added the most job openings:

Job Openings Added This Week:

The Business Services, Defense, Telecommunications, Retail, and Transportation verticals are the top industries with new job ads based on a survey of recent advertisements from the nations’ top job boards added during the past seven days.

Business Services continued heavy hiring with IBM, SAIC, Accenture, and Booz Allen all in the top employers. Defense continued near the top with US Army, Raytheon, and General Dynamics included in the top 10 new employment advertisers this week, followed by Northrup Grumman.

Telecommunications remained strong for the past quarter with AT&T and Verizon continuing as top employment advertisers. Retail continued to advertise even after Christmas with Sears, Kmart, Ross Stores, Food Lion, Radio Shack, and Blockbuster, JCPenney still in the top hiring firms.

Transportation rounded out the top 10 with Reyes Transportation jumping near the top of major employers this week. Health Care hiring was still strong, but dropped off the top firms with new ads this week.
