Who’s hiring – Top employers week of 1-11-10


Who's Hiring is a weekly survey of companies showing the highest hiring activity for the week of 1/11/10. Not only is this valuable for job seekers, but for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers, and others who are interested in companies experiencing growth. Despite the recession, these companies are all expanding.

Total Job Openings:

The hospitality, business services, transportation, retail, telecommunications, banking, defense, and health care verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ leading job boards.

Hospitality increased to the #1 spot this week as Pizza Hut, and Hilton were among the top hiring firms this week. Business Service firms IBM, Booz Allen, Accenture, Deloitte, and CSC continue strong hiring. Transportation provided a surprise this week, as Ryder drives to third place of all hiring firms, and FedEx remained on the list of top companies advertising for employees.

Retail hiring continues strong in January, with Blockbuster and Sears still in the top 10 well after the holiday season. Other top retail hiring firms include OfficeMax, Kmart, Murphy USA, Food Lion, and Radio Shack. Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T and Verizon still staffing actively.

Banking continued strong this week as JPMorganChase registered #6 on the hiring list, while Wells Fargo and Fifth Third were also included in the top hiring companies. Defense companies remained top hiring firms led by US Army, Raytheon, and General Dynamics making the list.

Health care hiring continued its strong past quarter, led by UnitedHealth, HCR Manorcare, Amedisys Home Health, Gentiva Health, Aegis Therapies, HGI Healthcare, Quest Diagnostics, and Kindred Healthcare among the health care top hiring companies.

Based on surveys of US job advertisements in the top job board aggregators, the following companies added the most job openings:

Job Openings Added This Week:

The Transportation, Defense, Hospitality, Business Services, Telecommunications, and Retail verticals are the top industries with new job postings based on a survey of the nations’ leading job advertisements added during the past seven days.

Transportation firms led new hiring advertisements this week, with Ryder taking the top spot. Defense continued strong with US Army, General Dynamics, and Raytheon included in the top employment new ads this week.

Hospitality continues to staff as Pizza Hut and Hilton took out new employment listings. Business Services continued heavy hiring with IBM, SAIC, Deloitte, Accenture, and CSC all in the top employers.

Telecommunications remained strong for the past quarter with AT&T and Verizon continuing as top employment advertisers, but also adding T-Mobile this week. Retail continues strong post holiday hiring with OfficeMax, JoS A. Bank, Blockbuster, Sears, Food Lion, and Radio Shack in the top hiring firms.
