Whos Hiring – Top employers week of 12-21-09


Who's Hiring is a weekly survey of companies showing the highest hiring activity for the week of 12/21/09. Not only is this valuable for job seekers, but for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers, and others who are interested in companies experiencing growth. Despite the recession, these companies are all expanding.

Total Job Openings:
The hospitality, business services, banking, defense, retail, telecommunications, and health care verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ top job boards.

Hospitality continued strong hiring, with Pizza Hut, Marriott, Cracker Barrel, and Hilton among the top hiring firms this week. Business Service firms, IBM, Accenture, Deloitte, Booz Allen, CSC, and SAIC continue to be in the top hiring firms, partially due to support of federal government and DOD contracts.

Banking is big news this week, with JPMorgan Chase at #4 of the hiring list, with Wells Fargo, and Fifth Third Bank back on top. Defense companies remained top hiring firms led by US Army, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and BAE making the list.

Retail hiring is still strong despite the holiday season nearing it’s end, with Blockbuster and Sears in the top 10, as retailers firmed up their holiday coverage. Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T, and Verizon still strong on hiring.

Health care hiring has been strong for the past quarter, led by UnitedHealth, Gentiva Health, HCR Manorcare, Amedisys Home Health, Hgi Healthcare, Quest Diagnostics, Aegis Therapies and Kindred Healthcare among the health care top hiring companies.

Based on surveys of US job advertisements in the top job board aggregators, the following companies added the most job openings:

Job Openings Added This Week:

The Hospitality, Business Services, Retail, Telecommunications, Defense, and Banking verticals are the top industries with new job ads based on a survey of recent advertisements from the nations’ top job boards added during the past seven days.

Hospitality led hiring this week with Pizza Hut and Hilton both in the top hiring list. Business Services continued heavy hiring with IBM, SAIC, Deloitte, and Accenture, all in the top employers. Retail continued to advertise right up to the holidays with Toys “R” Us, Kmart, Sears, Pilot Travel centers, Murphy, Macy’s, Food Lion, Radio Shack, Firestone, and Bed, Bath and Beyond still in the top hiring firms.

Telecommunications remained strong with AT&T and Verizon continuing their long stay as top employers. Defense continued heavy hiring with US Army, Raytheon, and General Dynamics included in the top new employment advertisers this week.

Banking continued strong for a second week with JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Fifth Third all made the top 40.
