Some encouraging news was reported by The Conference Board, who published that job advertisements were up 20% over a year ago, an increase of 600,000. "The last three months have shown a sharp upturn in employer demand for workers," said Gad Levanon, Associate Director, Macroeconomic Research at The Conference Board.The hospitality, business services, health care, retail, banking, defense, and telecommunications verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ leading job boards.
Hospitality held onto the #1 spot this week as Pizza Hut, Hilton and Marriott were among the top hiring firms this week. Business Service firms IBM, Deloitte, Accenture, Booz Allen, CSC and SAIC continue strong hiring.
Health care hiring continued its strong past quarter, led by newcomer to the top 10, HCR ManorCare, joined by UnitedHealth. Also among the top hiring firms were Amedisys Home Health, Gentiva Health, Genesis Healthcare, DaVita, Hgi Healthcare, Quest Diagnostics, Kindred Healthcare, and Aegis Therapies among the health care top hiring companies.
Retail hiring continues hiring into February, with Sears and Kmart still in the top 10 long after the holiday season. Other top retail hiring firms include Blockbuster, Food Lion and Radio Shack. Banking stayed steady this week as JPMorganChase remained at #5 on the hiring list, while PNC, Wells Fargo and Fifth Third were also included in the top hiring companies.
Defense companies remained top hiring firms led by US Army, Raytheon, and General Dynamics making the list. Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon still staffing actively.

Job Openings Added This Week:
The Business Services, Health care, Defense, Telecommunications, Hospitality, and Banking verticals are the top industries with new job postings based on a survey of the nations’ leading job advertisements added during the past seven days.Business Services led new hiring advertisements this week, with IBM, SAIC, Accenture, and Deloitte in the top employers. Health care is back near the top as HCR ManorCare came in at #2. Also included in the top hiring firms were Amedisys Home Health, UnitedHealth, Genzyme, PSA Healthcare, Kindred Healthcare, and Extendicare Health.
Defense was back with US Army in the top 10, and also included General Dynamics and Raytheon as top hiring companies. Telecommunications remained strong for the past quarter with AT&T and T-Mobile in the top 10. Verizon is still hiring for its wireless division, even as it announced large layoffs in its land line units. Hospitality continued heavy hiring with as Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and Hilton took out new employment listings.
JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, PNC, Citizens Financial, were banks included in the top companies with new ads this week.
