Top Layoffs week ended 10-1:

Government topped the list, as the City of Newark NJ announced approximately 2,200 layoffs, and NASA announced it was cutting 1,200 contractors. Aerospace came in second as Northrup Grumman is cutting 500 Los Angeles staff while ATK announced it’s cutting 426 positions.

Financial service was next as Ocwen Loan Servicing announced it is trimming 452 positions in North Highlands CA. Hospitality company Hilton is cutting 295 reservation staff at its Hemet CA facility.

Energy rounded out the list as Consol Energy is closing 2 UT and PA mines and laying off 231 workers.

Inclusion on this listing doesn’t mean the entire industry is down, as some from the same sectors appeared on the “Who’s Hiring” article published 9/27/10.
