Top Layoffs week ended 8-13-10:
Even though Government topped the list, total government entities announcing layoffs were way down as only 5 announced job cuts (Compared to as many as 30 in past weeks). Government layoffs were led by Chicago Public Schools announced cuts affecting 1,700 employees. Health care was next as CareFusion laid off 700 workers and Tuscon Medical center trimmed 300 staff.
Automotive manufacturer Chrysler announced closure of it’s Kenosha plant, cutting 575 jobs. Retail chain Movie Gallery announced store closures affecting 483 workers.
Hospitality company Expedia cut 286 positions, due to travel business slowdowns.
Inclusion on this listing doesn’t mean the entire industry is down, as some from the same sectors appeared on the “Who’s Hiring” article published 8/9/10.
Job seekers: You might want to look in greener pastures than these companies.
