The hospitality, business services, retail, banking, telecommunications, health care and defense verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ top job boards. Of course overall advertised openings were down a bit this week due to the holiday.

Hospitality continued strong hiring, with Pizza Hut, Cracker Barrel, and Hilton among the top hiring firms this week. Business Service firms IBM, Accenture, Deloitte, Booz Allen, CSC, and SAIC continue to be in the top hiring firms, partially due to support of federal government and DOD contracts.

Retail hiring remains strong despite the holiday season at it’s end, with Blockbuster and Sears in the top 10, as retailers firmed up their holiday coverage. Banking continued strong this week as JPMorganChase registered #7 on the hiring list, and Wells Fargo continued its ranking in the top hiring companies.

Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T, and Verizon still strong on hiring. Health care hiring has been strong for the past quarter, led by UnitedHealth, HCR Manorcare, Gentiva Health, Amedisys Home Health, HGI Healthcare, Aegis Therapies, Quest Diagnostics, and Kindred Healthcare among the health care top hiring companies.

Defense companies remained top hiring firms led by US Army, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and BAE making the list.

Based on surveys of US job advertisements in the top job board aggregators, the following companies added the most job openings:

Job Openings Added This Week:

The Hospitality, Retail, Business Services, Telecommunications, Defense, and Health Care verticals are the top industries with new job ads based on a survey of recent advertisements from the nations’ top job boards added during the past seven days.
Hospitality led hiring this week with Pizza Hut remaining at the top of the hiring list. Retail continued to advertise right up to Christmas with Blockbuster, JCPenney, Toys “R” Us, Murphy, Sears, Target, and Food Lion still in the top hiring firms.

Business Services continued heavy hiring with IBM, SAIC, Booz Allen, Accenture, and Deloitte all in the top employers. Telecommunications remained strong for two months straight AT&T and Verizon continuing as employment advertisers.

Defense continued near the top US Army, and General Dynamics included in the top new employment advertisers this week. However, the number of defense positions and the number of top hiring defense firms took a significant dive this week … possibly due to slower holiday employment advertising.

Health Care rounds out the top employers with strong hiring by HCR ManorCare, Merck, Bayada Nurses, Amedisys, Cardinal Health, United Health Group, PSA Healthcare, and Golden Living Centers, all in the top 40.
