Who's Hiring – Top employers week of 12-14-09


Who's Hiring is a weekly survey of companies showing the highest hiring activity for the week of 12/14/09. Not only is this valuable for job seekers, but for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers, and others who are interested in companies experiencing growth. Despite the recession, these companies are all expanding.

Total Job Openings:
The hospitality, business services, shipping, telecommunications, banking, retail, health care, and defense verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ top job boards.


Hospitality continued strong hiring, with Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Cracker Barrel, Marriott and Hilton among the top hiring firms this week. Business Service firms, IBM, Accenture, Booz Allen, CSC, and SAIC continue to be in the top hiring firms, partially largely supporting federal government and DOD contracts.

Seasonal shipping hiring continued strong, in preparation to send all those holiday gifts, with UPS and FedEx remaining on the top employers list for the past month. Retail hiring made a small comeback with Sears re-entering the top 10, as retailers firmed up their holiday coverage.

Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T, and Verizon advertising heavily for employees. Banks are resurging, having a second strong hiring week, led by JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Woodforest Bank, and Fifth Third Bank.

Health care hiring has been strong for the past month, led by UnitedHealth, HCR Manorcare, Gentiva Health, Amedisys Home Health, Quest Diagnostics, and Kindred Healthcare among the health care top hiring companies. Defense companies remained top hiring firms, but their numbers are starting to decrease, led by Raytheon, General Dynamics, US Army, and BAE making the list.

Based on surveys of US job advertisements in the top job board aggregators, the following companies added the most job openings:

Job Openings Added This Week:

The Hospitality, Telecommunications, Business Services, Retail, Banking, Defense, and Education verticals are the top industries with new job ads based on a survey of recent advertisements from the nations’ top job boards added during the past seven days.

Hospitality led hiring this week with Pizza Hut, Cracker Barrel, and Hilton all made the top hiring list. Telecommunications remained strong with AT&T and Verizon continuing their long stay as top employers.

Business Services continued heavy hiring with IBM, SAIC, Accenture all in the top 10, and also including CSC and Deloitte as top employers. Retail continued to advertise before the holidays with Babies “R” Us, Murphy USA, Sears, Toys “r” Us, Radio Shack, Food Lion, Macy’s, and Kum & Go still in the top 40 despite drawing close to the holidays.

Banking continued strong for a second week with JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citizens Financial, TD Bank, and Fifth Third all made the top 40. Defense continued heavy hiring with General Dynamics, Raytheon, and BAE included in the top new employment advertisers this week.

Education entered the top 10 with KinderCare and McGraw-Hill included in the top hiring firms.
