Who's Hiring – Top employers week of 12-07-09


Who's Hiring is a weekly survey of companies showing the highest hiring activity for the week of 12/7/09. Not only is this valuable for job seekers, but for business analysts, corporate strategists, marketers, salespeople, investment analysts, financial advisers, and others who are interested in companies experiencing growth. Despite the recession, these companies are all expanding.

Total Job Openings:
The business services, hospitality, shipping, telecommunications, health care, and defense verticals are the top industries currently hiring based on a survey of active job advertisements from the nations’ top job boards.

Business Service firms, IBM, Deloitte, Booz Allen, Accenture, CSC, and SAIC continue to be in the top hiring firms, partially largely supporting federal government and DOD contracts.

Hospitality continued strong hiring, with Pizza Hut and Hilton among the top hiring firms this week. Seasonal shipping hiring continued strong, in preparation to send all those holiday gifts, with UPS and FedEx remaining on the top employers list for the past month. Retail hiring dropped from the top 10, as retailers firmed up their holiday coverage.

Telecommunications continued strong hiring, with AT&T, and Verizon advertising heavily for employees. Health care hiring had a third strong week in a row, led by UnitedHealth, HCR Manorcare, Gentiva Health, Amedisys Home Health, St. Catherine Hospital, Quest Diagnostics, Kindred Healthcare, and Aegis Therapies among the health care top hiring companies.

Defense companies remained top hiring firms, but their numbers are starting to decrease, led by Raytheon, BAE, US Army, and General Dynamics making the list.

Interesting to note is the continued resurgence of bank and financial institution hiring, with JPMorgan Chase, Liberty Mutual, Wells Fargo, Aflac, Morgan Stanley, Allstate, and Fifth Third Bank making the top 40 hiring companies.

Based on surveys of US job advertisements in the top job board aggregators, the following companies added the most job openings:

Job Openings Added This Week:

The Business Services, Defense, Telecommunications, Banking, and Health Care verticals are the top industries with new job ads based on a survey of recent advertisements from the nations’ top job boards added during the past seven days.

Defense continued heavy hiring with US Army, General Dynamics, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and BAE included in the top new employment advertisers this week. AT&T continued to hire in the Telcom vertical, and Verizon returned to the top 40 this week.

Banking is back! JPMorgan Chase hit the top 10 new advertisements this week while Wells Fargo, Bank of America, HSBC, TD Bank, Citizens Financial, and Fifth Third all made the top 40.

Health Care companies continue to expand with HCR Manorcare, UnitedHealth, Amedisys Home Health, and Quest Diagnostics as top hiring health care firms.

Shipping and retail hiring fell with only Sears in the top 10 of new advertisements, as seasonal hiring firmed up.
